Ken's life was shaped by the dark shadows cast by his father, Kiarie Mbugua, a notorious robber who terrorized the streets of Mathare, Nairobi. From a young age, Ken was groomed in the art of crime, taught how to handle weapons and carry out daring heists.
"I was born into a world of crime," Ken confesses, his voice tinged with regret. "My father was my mentor, teaching me everything he knew, from wielding a pistol to brandishing an AK47."
As he grew older, Ken followed in his father's footsteps, becoming a skilled thief in his own right. But it was a fateful night at a crusade that changed everything.
"I thought it would be an easy score," Ken recalls, the memories still vivid in his mind. "We targeted the offering collected during the service, but things went south fast."
Caught in the act by the pastor, Ken's father was gunned down in a violent confrontation. "It was my birthday, October 7, 2015," Ken murmurs, his heart heavy with sorrow. "I lost my father, my mentor, on the very day I came into this world."
But amidst the chaos, the pastor showed unexpected compassion, choosing to spare Ken rather than turn him over to the authorities. "He saw something in me, something worth saving," Ken admits, his eyes glistening with gratitude.
With the pastor's guidance, Ken embarked on a journey of redemption, leaving behind a life of crime to embrace a new path. "I owe him everything," Ken declares, his voice filled with determination. "He gave me a second chance when no one else would."
Today, Ken stands as a testament to the power of compassion and forgiveness, a living example of how even the darkest of souls can find redemption in the light. "I may have been born into a life of crime," Ken reflects, "but now, I choose to walk the path of righteousness."
