Judith Wavinya a 30-year-old woman from Dandora Kenya was raped by two men on the night of August 11, 2017, while she was walking to her home. Judith met the two hooligans who asked her if she knew them. They then dragged her to an isolated place. There they bet her up badly till she was hurt. “One of the men raped me that is both vaginally and annually! “ Judith said tearfully. Wavinya was a mother of three kids and then she had become one of the victims who faced the pain of the jaws of rape. A traumatizing “horror scene” leaves this victim horrified, frightened, heartbroken and their self-esteem reduced. Many of them do not get the assistance that is the treatment for the scars they get from this evil and unethical scene.

Have you ever asked yourself why these cases of rape are increasing so abruptly in recent years? May it be in Kenya, Africa or other continents? Let's check the reasons why cases of rape are increasing:

  1. Media

The media is at many times said by many people as the reason for the increase in these unethical acts against our people, mostly females.  The media is divided into print media and broadcast media.

Checking the print media has magazines, newspapers and many other written materials. Let's talk about magazines. Am sure you have come across so many magazines printed with sexually arousing pictures mostly for young women. Will this not contribute to this case? Looking at the newspapers, many newspapers have taken the advantage of people liking sex-oriented storing and using that to increase their newspapers prices. Little do they know they are contributing to a serious case of rape in our society? Most of the newspapers house the above-mentioned immoral magazines in between their pages.

Moreover, the broadcast media, that is the internet, television and radio mostly. The internet mainly has these pornographic sites which our society people have not been spared to reach. These immoral sites attract much traffic which automatically has caused the above demonic act in our community. Television and radio as well are in the same manner less act by broadcasting sexually biased content to its audience in order to increase their watch time and engagement. Oh, rather they are increasing rape cases on this humbly created planet among its people.

2. Poverty

The Bible says that “An idle mind is the workshop of the devil.” Proverb: 16, 27(Proverbs chapter 16 verse 27). Most of the poor people who are highly struck by poverty are idle. They don’t have jobs to keep them busy. And it is the devil who is there to kill, damage and steal. These idle, poor individuals will think only of immoral acts. It is scientifically proven most of the idle people have energy but they are too lazy to use it in jobs but in immoral and evil acts like stealing, rape etc.

3. Criminality

Robbery, stealing, war and any other crime will always come in handy with rape, and sexual abuse cases. Where no order, peace and harmony there is no gender respect and equality? Mostly, the men will be associated with this case. Many rape cases of tragic, hunting and nasty have been due to robbery which is criminality.

4. Drugs

This was a strong factor contributing to rape we couldn’t leave aside. What do drugs do to a consumer/ Drugs are scientifically said to alter the body's normal function which is to change. Meaning a drugged person is abnormal or not sober. Drugs have contributed to the 36% increase in the cases of rape worldwide. The mentioned drugs that have caused these cases is alcohol leading, bhang as or also mostly called “weed”, cocaine, heroin etc. Other common drugs are used to make the victim sleep or be unconscious. When these culprits are not sober or they are drugged they will think of doing an immoral act of sex to any victim around e.g.  minor, male or female. As well, the unconscious victim would be able to fight back.

5. Dress code

There is a global phrase mostly said by females that goes, “my dress, and my choice”. This is one of the misleading quotes that are leading to very bad cases of rape. When a woman dresses exposing her private parts will make her vulnerable to culprits who will rape her. Sexually infusing a dress code on a woman can make anyone be aroused to sexually abuse her.

To sum up, to decrease the presence of victims of rape like Judith Wavinya we should unite and work to fight the above factors causing rape cases. It is a campaign and fight every Earth individual should participate in so that we win. Moreover, every individual should take care of themselves.
